Biography

John Manoush, Food Safety Consultant

Food Industry Experience

  • 14 years as a food safety consultant, working for both large and small companies in training, auditing and food safety program creation or improvement, specializing in HACCP programs.
  • 27 years as Quality Assurance and R&D Manager for nationally known low-acid canned foods manufacturer (B&M Baked Beans).  Parent companies have been B&G Foods, The Pillsbury Company, Pet, Inc. and the Wm. Underwood Company.
  • 2 years in quality with Armour and Company in Boston, MA.
  • Experience with a variety of products including canned beans, bakery, acidified foods, canned sardines, sauces and preserves, fresh seafoods, cured meats, canned meats and dry seasonings.
  • Over 7 years as a HACCP leader and trainer.
  • Thoroughly familiar with FDA low-acid and GMP requirements as well as popular 3rd party audit standards including AIB and SQF.

Education

  • MS in Food Science from the University of Massachusetts.
  • Completed numerous industry and university applied courses including HACCP, Statistical Process Contol, Design of Experiments, Sanitation and Pest Control, Team Building and Public Speaking.

Affiliations and Certifications

  • PCQI, or Preventive Controls Qualified Individual, Dec., 2016 through GMA. This is required to prepare food safety plans under FSMA.
  • Registered SQF Consultant from 2009-2012.
  • Emeritus member of Institute of Food Technologists;  Designated Certified Food Scientist in 2013.
  • American Society for Quality (ASQ) certifications for Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) and HACCP auditor (CQA-HACCP).
  • Instructor for FDA-approved Better Process Control school at the University of Maine.
  • Certified HACCP team leader for the Pillsbury Company, pioneer in development of the HACCP system.
  • Participated on the 2005 FDA CGMP Advisory Group and the 2004 study, “Common Food Safety Problems in the U.S. Food Industry”.
  • Past advisory board chairman for agriculture and forestry to the Maine Technology Institute, a state agency that provides financial assistance to businesses that employ promising new technologies.
